Ohk,
So I know that I have posted about getting phone before, but with the new year and the lack of a purchase, maybe some OEM will answer my call for an ideal phone.
I simply want a phone that has a WVGA screen (largest screen) with multi-touch capability ( preferably resistive). I would also like the phone equipped with a slide-out 5+ row keyboard, wifi, blue tooth, and a 3.5mm audio jack. It wold be a dream if this were all running ontop of an andoid system. Currently these are the devices that tickle my fancy and meet most of the criteria, but are missing one key feature which is preventing me from buying.
HTC Touch HDClick above for phone specs.
Pros:
This is the real Jesus Phone.
It has the largest and Highest reslolution of any phone available (WVGA).
Fastest QualCom processor available.
Most RAM of any phone available.
Touch Flo 3D is beautiful and makes WinMo tolerable.
Device is perfect size form factor for mobile phone.
Built in GPS.
Dual Camera (one on back for pictures and on on front for video conferencing)
Cons:
No 3g (Does not support US 3G bands) as it is a Euro/Asian phone.
No slide out keyboard. It is the first phone to use Touch Flo 3D so it is purely touch only.
HTC chose to use Windows Mobile for the OS. I don't mind using the WinMo with Touch Flo 3D at least untill I can get Android working on this phone.
Most of HTC's phones have TV out and support DVB reception; this one does not contain the hardware to do so. DVB TV support would be nice!
800 USD!
Sony Ericsson Xperia X1This phone is similar to the HTC Touch HD except where otherwise noted.
Pros:
Has a 4 row keyboard.
Better video and audio playback/compatability than HD (its a sony).
Supports US 3G (X1a - North America model)
Touch Flo 3d w/ Sony Panel Concept on top of WinMo
Cons:
Has 4 Row keyboard so you have to FN+<press> to enter numbers from keyboard.
Smaller Screen than Touch HD (but still WVGA).
Device is smaller form factor than HD which makes it hard for large hand/finger people like me.
X1a version is crippled incomparison to the X1i in video playback and has no DVB support.
Main camera not as good as HD.
Again, 800 USD!
HTC Touch Pro 2This phone answers some of the drawbacks of the above two, but it has a few drawbacks of its own and is yet to be released. It is similar to the HD except where noted (even though this is an upgraded Touch Pro).
Pros:
5 Row keyboard with numbers on the top row.
Tilting screen to eliminate awkward angles.
Now sports same amount of RAM as HD.
Has a dedicated zoom on device.
Has DVB and TV out support.
Will feature WinMo 6.5.
Cons:
Sports weaker processor than HD (generation below).
Smaller screen than Touch HD (but still WVGA).
No 3.5mm audio jack. Needs that HTC ExtUSB we all know and hate.
Device is smaller form factor than HD which makes it hard for large hand/finger people like me.
No price yet but hope it isn't 800 USD!
Main camera not as good as HD.
Will feature WinMo 6.5 and not Android.
The above are my top three phones and it is funny that they are all manufactured by HTC.
Now the below phones are the future technology that sport the new SoC systems that promise HD playback and offer Android as their Choice OS.
Nvidia TegraThese chips loo promissing. Their main focus seems to be graphics oriented but the prototype MID that Nvidia has looks promissing but would be better with a slide out keyboard as well.
Nvidia MIDQualComm SnapDragonHTC is promissing to unveil a few phones based off this promissing chipset running Adnroid. HTC please release one with a slide out keyboard.
Samsung MID TI OMAPArchos has a phone based on android and their internet/media tablets devices. The phones will use the OMAP technology developed by TI. I hope one of them has a slide out keyboard.
